Spend A Week Of Work Experience At The Avenue Estate Agents With Me

My name is Maizie. This week, I had the amazing opportunity to do my work experience at The Avenue Estate Agents. I'm currently in Year 12 at St Francis of Assisi and chose this placement to get a clearer picture of potential career paths I would like to go down, as I'm still undecided about my future job role.

By working here, I hoped to learn a variety of skills, from the process of being a partner to marketing and social media management etc.

Monday:
I started the week off by getting to know The Avenue's business model. They're a self-employed brokerage, and Holly (the head of operational management) explained how partners operate within the business and the process of becoming one. The most interesting part of my day was learning about the marketing and social media side of the business - I got to create my own Instagram posts, here is an example of one!

Additionally, learning about mortgages and stamp duty was quite valuable to know, especially since I'm only 17 and didn't know much about these topics before. This knowledge will also be beneficial for me for the future as well.

Tuesday:
On Tuesday, we visited a property marketing shoot for a 3-bedroom semi-detached house priced at £300,000 in Aldridge. Emma Nugent, a partner, walked me through the tasks involved in prepping the house and making floor plans. In the afternoon, I helped compile data for a resource library - a tool to help partners with tips and information whenever they need help or refreshing on topics. This project made me realise how much behind-the-scenes work goes into maintaining a successful estate agency, just like the Avenue do.

Wednesday:
Wednesday was all about creativity and marketing, which I really enjoyed. I spent the day downloading property photos and turning them into YouTube thumbnails, for them eventually all to be uploaded on their channel. For example, one of them looked like this:

Understanding SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) was also a crucial part of this task, as it helps improve our online visibility to clients and our audience. This day helped me consider that marketing is a potential work field I'm considering for my future, and it taught me the important steps business must go down to stay active with their audience across social media.

Thursday:
The biggest project of the week was finalising my blog on Thursday which I was slowly preparing for and gathering information across this past week, for it to then go out on the newsletter at the end of the week. Writing this blog also helped me improve my communication and writing skills, which are essential in any professional setting.

Overall, this week has been really interesting and valuable. I've gained practical skills and a better understanding of my interests, particularly in marketing and social media and also what working life is like. Thank you to Holly, Jack, and The Avenue for allowing me to do my work experience here, I've really enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

Most homeowners make decisions based on what they think is true about the property market. The problem is, a lot of it is outdated or simply wrong. These misconceptions can cost time, money and opportunities. Here are some of the biggest myths sellers still believe and what is actually true.

A lot of property advice homeowners still follow was built for a completely different market. Buyer behaviour has changed, property searching has changed and expectations have changed. Yet many sellers still approach the market the same way they did years ago. Here are the biggest myths that no longer hold up.

The property market has continued to show resilience as we move further into spring, although April has brought a noticeable shift in momentum. With interest rates rising and affordability being stretched, both buyers and sellers are adapting to a more balanced – and in some cases more cautious – market.

The longer a home sits on the market, the more buyer perception changes and usually not in the seller’s favour. What starts as strong interest can quickly become hesitation, reduced urgency and lower offers. Here is what actually happens when a listing goes stale and how sellers can avoid it.
