Behind the Scenes: One week in work experience

Behind the Scenes: One week in work experience

My name is Zantia Hylton, and I'm 14 years old, currently in Year 10 at Stockland Green School. This week, I’m at The Avenue Estate Agents to get a taste of what it’s like to be an estate agent since it’s a career I’m interested in for the future.

On Monday, we learnt about various aspects of the business, including how its model differs to other models, creating social media content, mortgages, and stamp duty land tax (SDLT). We also looked at how to create effective social media posts. Here is the first example I created:
The Avenue creates effective social media posts to gain more exposure for the property to help sell it, to help showcase the services and to attract more customers. Here is the second example I created:

On Tuesday, we focused on property marketing by visiting a marketing shoot in a £300,000 3 bed 1 bath and 1 w/c semi-detached house. We learned how to prepare houses for marketing shoots and drew up floor plans. We also conducted a walkthrough tour of a house, taking photos and videos.

On Tuesday afternoon, after the marketing shoot, we focused on building a resource library for the partners. Maizie and I started by gathering content, which we then edited and posted on YouTube. We organized the videos in a logical order to ensure they would be useful for the partners.

As part of my work experience at The Avenue Estate Agents on Wednesday, I have been immersing myself in the operations of self-employed estate agency models. Yesterday was particularly insightful as I delved into the world of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and contributed to the company's online presence by uploading content to YouTube. SEO is a crucial tool for improving a website's visibility on search engines like Google. By optimising content with relevant keywords, meta descriptions, and tags, businesses can rank higher in search results, making it easier for potential clients to find them.

Thursday we finished off putting thumbnails on the videos, adding a title, putting a description and scheduling all of them to different dates. Then we started to finish of crafting our blogs to go out on the newsletter for The Avenue Estate Agents clients.

From this experience, I have gained a deeper understanding of how digital marketing strategies like SEO and video content can impact a business's success. I have learnt the importance of staying current with online trends.

I am grateful for this experience with The Avenue Estate Agents. They are wonderful, lovely people that work hard in what they do.
